After a Rosetti Poem
Recently I decided to read Christian Rosetti's poetry again. I have never read her comprehensively, and was curious if the few poems I have been exposed to are representative or unique. While on the whole I find her writing less than I had hoped, there are poems here and there that I discovered which are wonderfully sculpted. The title of one of her poems stuck with me, and here is my own feeble attempt to work it out. Somewhere or other there surely must be A wonderful companion and lover for me. A perfect match, the yin to my yang, Completing my emptiness, filling my cup, Always supportive, lifting me up. How have we missed each other? I wonder. Where have you been? Was it my blunder That kept us apart? Did I miss our meeting? Can I go back and try again? Have another chance? Make amends? Ah, but there's no help for it now. Having already put hand to plow. What's done is over. You can't go back. From here on out, you can only move on And hope that your last chance is not really gone.
